Marquez discharged from hospital

Moto2 star Marc Marquez, who underwent some checks at the USP Institut Universitari Dexeus upon his return from Malaysia, will need to rest for the next few days.

Marc Márquez was discharged today (Wednesday) from the USP Institut Universitari Dexeus, following the completion of two-days of medical checks after his return from Sepang in Malaysia.

The Repsol Suter title contender was not able to compete in Sunday's race due to vision problems resulting from a highside on unmarked water in Friday practice.

On Monday, when he arrived from Malaysia, Emilio Alzamora's protégée went directly to the hospital in Barcelona. Doctors did an exhaustive examination, keeping him under observation and under medical treatment for 48 hours.

In a statement, Dr. Xavier Mir, Head of Hand Surgery Unit of the USP Dexeus said, “Marc Márquez has a left shoulder traumatism, and incisive wound on the chin and second degree burns on the right knee, so we started with the cures to start regenerating the skin”.

Dr. Ángel Charte, Head of the Medicine Department, commented, “the rider arrived to the hospital after suffering an accident that caused concussion with brachial involvement and several contusions. In Malaysia he also suffered an episode of blurred vision and image distortion. When he arrived to the USP Institut Universitari Dexeus, we did several diagnosis tests that showed that he suffers periorbital edema that produces a sequential vertical diplopia (double vision), and discards any other type of injury. He is following a treatment to correct this vision alteration and it is evolving satisfactorily”.

Marquez is now 20 points behind Stefan Bradl with one round (and 25 points) remaining.

A decision on whether Marquez - who confirmed at Sepang that he will stay in Moto2 next year - will participate in the Valencia Grand Prix on November 4-6 will be made in the coming days.
