Despite appearing on the official 2012 Moto2 entry list and testing again for the Gresini Moriwaki squad in Valencia last week, British rider Gino Rea says his deal still hasn’t been signed to complete an expected switch from the World Supersport series.
The Londoner though expects a successful conclusion to negotiations imminently, with a possible agreement in place when the Moto2 winter testing campaign resumes in Jerez on Thursday (February 16).
It seems certain that Rea will ride for the Gresini squad alongside Thailand's Ratthapark Wilairot having admitted he doesn’t have any back-up plan to revert back to World Supersport at such a late stage.
He told MCN: “We don’t really have a back up plan but my goal is to stay in Moto2 and especially with the Gresini team. There is still nothing official. I am still in negotiation and maybe by Jerez we can fix something permament for the year.”
