Austin MotoGP in doubt?

MotoGP's planned 2013 debut at the new circuit being built in Austin, Texas is reported to be under threat due to 'contract issues'.

A ten-year MotoGP deal with the Circuit of the Americas was announced last April and followed hot on the heels of an agreement with Formula One, which will see the four-wheel grand prix championship debut in 2012.

But both agreements were put in doubt by a series of 'complications', most significantly the departure of original promoter Tavo Hellmund. F1 subsequently reached a new arrangement with the circuit owners, but that appears not to yet be the case for MotoGP.

According to Austin newspaper Statesman.com, 1993 world champion and Texan native Kevin Schwantz has sent a letter to Steve Sexton, president of Circuit of the Americas, urging him to take action.

As well as advising on the design of the circuit, Schwantz is manager of 3FourTexas MGP, which closed the original ten-year deal alongside Dorna and Hellmund's Full Throttle Productions company. 

Schwantz wrote: "I urge you one final time to contact Mr. [Tavo] Hellmund about obtaining the rights to host a MotoGP race in Texas, after which I would be glad to open discussions with you as the new promoter. If you have not obtained such rights from Full Throttle, then unfortunately Circuit of the Americas will not be included as a round of the FIM Grand Prix Road Racing World Championship."

In an email to The Statesman, Sexton expressed confidence that a major two-wheeled championship would be on the circuit's 2013 schedule, but seemed to confirm that no deal is yet in place.

"We are in discussions with several major race series who have reached out to us, and our confidence is high that three to five major world-class events, including a two-wheel championship, will be on the 2013 schedule - and that these races will take place under terms favorable to the Circuit and the series owners."

Existing American MotoGP venues Laguna Seca and Indianapolis have a contract in place until 2014.

The inaugural Austin F1 Grand Prix is scheduled to take place on November 16-18.

Construction work to begin at Sachsenring

FIM safety officer Claude Danis has given the go-ahead for construction work to begin at the Sachsenring, in preparation for this year's German MotoGP, to be held on July 6-8.

The construction work includes the necessary expansion of gravel traps in two corners as well as further safety modifications to some of the crash barriers.

The Free State of Saxony is supporting the project to the tune of 1.5 million euros, with the work due to be completed by the end of April 2012.

The Sachsenring's place on the 2012 MotoGP calendar had been in doubt, but the sell-out event has now been confirmed as round eight of this year's championship.

The circuit named Motorpark will be was designed by Hermann Tilke with former World champion Kevin Schwantz as one of the consultants and will meet FIA and FIM homologation track standards.

Chile announces plans for MotoGP track

1993 500cc world champion Kevin Schwantz has attended the official presentation of a proposed new Hermann Tilke-designed circuit in Chile.

Called 'Motorpark' and part of a proposed 180-hectare development 30km from the centre of Santiago, the plans include the construction of a motocross circuit and 1.4km kart track in addition to the main race track, which is designed to meet both FIA and FIM homologation.

The project is now awaiting Environmental Impact approval, submitted in December. Once construction starts, Christian Epp (representing Tilke) said that the project would take around 18 months to complete.

Schwantz is advising on the design of the circuit and negotiations to host MotoGP, just as he did for the new track in Austin, Texas, which - like Argentina - has a contract to join the MotoGP calendar in 2013.

Chile joins the likes of India on the MotoGP 'wanted' list, putting further pressure on traditional European venues.

Tilke has designed many of the world's modern racetracks, including Bahrain, Buddh (India), Circuit of the Americas (Austin), Istanbul Park (Turkey), Korea, Sepang (Malaysia), Shanghai (China) and Yas Marina (Abu Dhabi).

Texas For MotoGP

Texas will host the 2013 MotoGP after Laguna Seca and Indianapolis circuit. This new circuit will replace on of those track. Laguna Seca holds the license until 2014m while Indianapolis only until 2011,

This Texas circuit also scheduled for F1 race on 2012. With 3.4 miles length and 20 turns, Circuit of the Americas is the 3rd MotoGP circuits in United States. Spain is the top host country with 3 races, while Italy and United States, both hold 2 licenses on MotoGP race

India For MotoGP 2012

After Singapore, now India is negotiating to Dorna Sport (MotoGP commercial rights holders) to be a MotoGP host for 2012. This statement was happened after India ready for F1 race next year.

“We are negotiating with Dorna Sports (MotoGP commercial rights holders) to bring MotoGP to India but it's quite an early stage and we have not reached a deal yet,” a spokesman for Jaypee Sports International told Reuters. 

“We have been talking to Dorna, as we have been talking to others, to explore various other opportunities. Yes, MotoGP might come to India but it's definitely not before 2012.” 

The Jaypee Group circuit at Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India is now ready for 2011 F1 race calender. This circuit was proposed in July 2007. The architect of this circuit is Hermann Tilke, with 5.15 km length of the circuit
