FAST becoming a desirable option for MotoGP in 2012 Marc Marquez could be moving up to the premier class with Honda next season; a year earlier than planned.
After crashing out of the first three races and learning his limit the painful way Marquez won his first race at Le Mans, and barring a crash in the torrid conditions at Silverstone, the Spaniard has been unstoppable in his race to loosen Stefan Bradl's grasp on the Moto2 championship lead. Winning his seventh race at Aragon saw Marquez close the gap to just six points behind the German.
Rumours regarding Marquez's future could see the 18-year-old on a factory machine in his own satellite team, as he has enough sponsors of his own for this to be financially viable - also acting as the solution for his rookie status blocking him from stepping up to the factory team immediately. The move would see Marquez emulate Valentino Rossi in 2000 when he ran in Nastro Azzurro colours.
His personal manager, Emilio Alzamoro has reportedly started discussions with HRC for a factory MotoGP bike. Honda were expected to decrease their factory involvement - to cut down on manufacturing costs - but in August HRC's vice president Shuhei Nakamoto said there is a possibility of building six bikes next year - two for Repsol Honda riders Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner, one for Marco Simoncelli at Gresini, potentially LCR Honda with Andrea Dovizioso, plans for a German-speaking rider and a sixth should someone request one.
Alzamora is trying to shift the attention from any MotoGP prospects away from Marqeuz so as to not distract the reigning 125 Champion from securing further title success in his debut season in the intermediate class.
