Petrucci happy with Ioda progress

Danilo Petrucci and the Came Iodaracing Project continued the development of the TR003 CRT machine at the Official MotoGP™ Test at Jerez over the weekend, and the Italian rider left the Spanish circuit pleased with what had been achieved.

Danilo Petrucci:

"We've had three very hard days, but in the end I am satisfied with the results we have achieved. I am the third Italian in the timings and the third CRT bike, even though I fell short of my target lap time by 0.1s – we wanted to be less than three seconds from the MotoGP bikes. Today (Sunday) I tested different tyres and we worked on the electronics a lot. We had two small problems that stopped us right at the moment when the track conditions were ideal for putting in our target lap time, but in the end I improved my lap time at the very end of the day. I must thank the team because they did a fantastic job. The TR003 continues to develop and today it proved it is reliable considering the 87 laps I completed. Now we go to Qatar knowing there is still a lot of work to do."

CAME IodaRacing Project presented in Venice

The Casino of Venice on the spectacular Grand Canal hosted the CAME IodaRacing Project team presentation on Saturday with riders Danilo Petrucci and Simone Corsi.

The partnership between the Veneto based company CAME, a leader in automation systems for residential and industrial entrances and parking and access controls, prepares to face the most important motorbike championship in the world with riders Danilo Petrucci in MotoGP™ and Simone Corsi in Moto2™.

Petrucci will ride the new Iodaracing TR003, a trellis framed bike fully designed and built in the factory in Terni, while Corsi will again race the Moto2 class with the FTR, on which the roman rider finished the season in sixth position.

The next important event for the CAME IodaRacing Team will be the IRTA Official Test at Jerez from the 19th to the 25th of March, after which, bikes and spare parts will be sent to Qatari Losail circuit for the first race of the 2012 season.

CRTs meet for testing at MotorLand

One month ahead of the start of the new MotoGP™ World Championship season, various premier class teams will be testing this week to continue preparations for the 2012 Championship. Over the course of two days—Thursday and Friday, the 8th and 9th of March—the Aragon MotorLand circuit will bring together several teams registered as CRT for another important test, one of the last of the preseason.

Teams confirmed thus far for the test are the Power Electronic Aspar team, with riders Randy de Puniet and Aleix Espargaró, Speed Master with Mattia Pasini, Paul Bird Motorsport with rider James Ellison, and Ioda Racing Project with Danilo Petrucci. After returning last week from Malaysia, Avintia Racing’s Ivan Silva and Yonny Hernandez will be present for further testing of their BQR-FTR machine.

The MotorLand circuit in Alcañiz could possibly see the debut of Michele Pirro, who has not yet ridden his 1000cc Honda CRT of the Gresini Team, although the outfit has not yet confirmed their attendance.

For those fans who wish to attend the test, the Aragon circuit is allowing access to grandstand 1, located on the home straight of the circuit. Access is free and is open from 9:00 am until 17:30 pm.

Special MotoGP 2012: Danilo Petrucci

Today we start the 2012 MotoGP special , and do it with one of the rookies for the upcoming season, it is the rider Danilo Petrucci , Italian first landed in the World Championship and make it big in the premier class and the hand of Ioda Racing.

Petrucci was the Italian National Champion Superstock in 2011 , and also the runner-up FIM Superstock 1000 Cup, so he has experience in European settings, but now comes a big project, an adventure that excites you and who wants to start, as it lands in the MotoGP World Championship , to be with the fastest men, although the 2012 is raised a little complicated for his team and himself.

The 9 is one of the pilots CRT , so I have to work hard to get your machine ready for the start of the season, is unknown as these bikes go in the race, but are a great novelty and above all the Ioda , although not currently have many references, as only participated in the pre-season test was performed for several days in Jerez, which managed a time of 1.41.6 on the final day of testing, improving day days.

What is clear is that they have many duties pending, but both the Italian and the Team Racing Ioda are with his hands in the dough to create a good CRT, and start this project in the best way in 2012, hoping to surprise with improvement in each race as it will be a long road of evolution and fine tuning, but eager and enthusiasm by everyone.

Petrucci: "I need to work on my riding style"

The Italian rider chosen to develop the Ioda Racing CRT prototype discovers exactly what needs to be done at the first real test with the new machine held this week at Jerez.

Although he came to the Jerez circuit having ridden the bike in a private test at the Italian circuit of Magione in January, Danilo Petrucci got his first real assessment of the Ioda CRT prototype during the three days spent this week at the Andalusian track.

Overall time on the track for the Italian was reduced because of two crashes, the first occurring on Tuesday afternoon and the second on Wednesday morning. But the 21 year old left the test with a clear idea of what is needed to move forward in the Ioda team's preparations for the first MotoGP™ race of 2012.

"I lost almost a whole day because of the crashes," he lamented at the end of the third and final day. "It’s a shame because we showed a lot of potential. The bike was built in just one month, so being here is already a miracle. We have a Superstock motor, steel brake discs, the bike is practically stock and I did a 1’41.6 lap, which is a good time. We are close to the others so I'm happy."

Petrucci began work on Monday, running the new chassis designed by Ioda for the first time. He closed the day with a time of 1’43.3, which he wasn’t able to improve upon due to the crash that shortened his day on Tuesday. He resumed work on Wednesday, completing 62 laps and bettering his time by 1.7 seconds. Most importantly however, he and the team discovered what they need to work on before the next test, scheduled for the 8th and 9th of March at the Motorland Aragon circuit.

"I need to work on my riding style," proclaimed the 2011 runner-up World Superstock 1000 champion. "My style is different from the other riders, they’re used to powerful bikes and the Bridgestone tyres. We’ll have to work on the electronics too. Now we are just waiting for the next test in March, where we’ll have the final version of the bike, the same one that we’ll use in the first Grand Prix in Qatar."

Jerez test concludes with CRT improvements

The private three-day test at the Circuito de Jerez concluded on Wednesday, with Randy De Puniet and Aleix Espargaró the fastest CRTs in the field on their Power Electronics Aspar bike. The Test also saw James Ellison and Danilo Petrucci wrapping up the first test on their respective machines.

Power Electronics Aspar riders De Puniet and Espargaró were the CRT pace men on the third and final day of private MotoGP™ testing , the Frenchman recording the best lap of 1'40.3. De Puniet’s time was three tenths off of the time set by the satellite GP12 of Héctor Barberá (Pramac Racing Team), who was in attendance for the last day of the test.

De Puniet spent the final day adjusting the electronics to improve suspension response and the rear grip of his ART, and reported being delighted with the potential of the bike overall. His pace set today was less than one second off the track lap record set by Pedrosa in 2010 (1’39.731), and with room for improvement still present, he expects the ART machines to continue their progress before the opening 2012 round at Qatar on April 8th.

Espargaró managed to lap within eight tenths of the top time set by his team-mate, declaring he didn't expect such a large improvement (1.5s) from day one. The Spaniard told motogp.com that additional room for improvement still remains with the bike’s set-up when using the hard compound Bridgestones, and that he was very satisfied with his final results of the three days.

Héctor Barberá concluded his one day test aboard the satellite GP12, the same test Ducati that caught fire as well as suffering significant additional damaged to the front end and chassis in Karel Abraham’s (Cardion AB Motoracing) crash yesterday. The Ducati technicians worked through the night and presented the Desmosedici to the Spaniard, who was then able to post a best time of 1’40.0 on the repaired machine.

James Ellison completed his first shakedown round on the Paul Bird Motorsport ART, concentrating on getting himself comfortable with the bike without pushing it to the limits. The Briton managed to lap just under two seconds faster than his best lap time yesterday and said that the bike will definitely further improve when the team receives additional parts they are waiting on.

In the Speed Master garage, Mattia Pasini concluded his second test on his team’s ART by shaving an additional seven tenths off his best run from Monday. The Italian told motogp.com that he is more than happy to have dropped nearly a second on each consecutive day of the test.

Danilo Petrucci was another rider to get his first taste of his 2012 race machine, concluding his first test on the Ioda Racing Project CRT with an improvement of 1.7 seconds over his time from yesterday. The Italian had a minor crash in the morning but was able to return to the track to resume working on electronic development of the Ioda bike.

The teams and riders now have one week to work with the data gathered before the next private test session on the 8th and 9th of March at Aragón.

First day of private testing in Jerez

With the opening round of the 2012 MotoGP™ season just six weeks away, several MotoGP CRTs shared the Jerez circuit today in a private test that continues through Wednesday.

Monday at the Circuito de Jerez closed with a private test that saw several CRT (Claiming Rule Team) riders aboard the bikes that will debut in the MotoGP World Championship this season, including the first ride for Danilo Petrucci aboard his Ioda Racing prototype .

Power Electronics Aspar Team riders Alex Espargaró and Randy de Puniet were in attendance for their second shake down of the ART (Aprilia Racing Technology), focusing on a new frame and swingarm, and testing carbon brakes for first time. De Puniet expressed that he was happy to be testing on a track with other CRTs present, as well as with Abraham and Barbara on track with their satellite bikes, in order to able to gauge where the team is, saying "Today we worked on suspension and also on the electronics. I'm a little upset because I didn’t go as fast as in November, when we were here testing. But on the other hand, I’m not worried because we still have two full days of work left. This afternoon we will analyze the information extracted in the first day of testing to see how we can improve for tomorrow."

Meanwhile team mate Espargaró ended his day early due to not feeling well. "This morning I struggled a bit to get my pace here in Jerez, a faster track than Valencia. As the day passed, I started to feel terrible and I had trouble staying focused . We were able to modify some aspects of chassis, but I decided to end the day early. Now understand why I didn’t feel comfortable on the bike. I decided to come to the hotel, lie down and rest until morning."

Mattia Pasini completed first day of the second test for the Italian this year posting 7 tenths behind Espargaro as he continues to adapt to the ART CRT of the Speed Master team.

Today marked the very first test for Danilo Petrucci aboard his Ioda Racing prototype CRT machine ahead of his first World Championship experience. The Italian tested out frames by both Ioda and Aprilia, posting his fastest lap aboard the Ioda chassis.

The Ducati test team was also on track with rider Franco Battaini working on electronic development for the GP12, though testing took place on an older version of the Ducati as the factory bike was not present at the circuit. Battaini also made with a few laps on the satellite GP12 as a shakedown for Karel Abraham who will be present tomorrow. Nicky Hayden had originally hoped to participate at this test, although his shoulder surgery performed earlier this month has left him unable to ride, though he is hoping to be ready for the next Official Test at the Malaysian circuit in 28 days.

Paul Bird Motorsport was present with James Ellison, though having just received the bike this morning the team spent the day working on an initial set-up and Ellison did not hit the track, though tomorrow the Briton will have his very first run on the ART bike ahead of his return to the premier class.

Tomorrow will also see Karel Abraham of CardionAB Motoracing joining the field of riders, with Hector Barbera of Pramac Racing riding on Wednesday, the final day of the private test.

Petrucci, Ioda set for Aprilia CRT in MotoGP

Ioda Racing appear to have dropped their plan, reported only yesterday by Corriere dello Sport, to run a CRT MotoGP bike using a Suter frame with a BMW engine, according to El Blog del Mundial de Motociclismo, which picked the news up from rider Danilo Petrucci's Twitter timeline. 

According to Petrucci, runner-up in the 2011 FIM Superstobk Cup, Ioda will develop their own chassis and match it with an Aprilia engine. “First we were to use Suter BMW [but] we chose a chassis made by us and Aprilia,” he wrote.

While confirmation from team boss Giampiero Sacchi is awaited, the move would be consistent with Ioda's bold approach, which led them to develop their own Moto3 engine under the EMIR joint venture with Robby Motor Technology.

NGM Forward Racing's Colin Edwards is the only confirmed rider to use the Suter-BMW CRT MotoGP package, while the Aspar (Randy de Puniet and Aleix Espargaro), Speed Master (Anthony West) and PBM (James Ellison) teams look set to run an Aprilia package. Gresini will use a Honda-powered FTR for Michele Pirro.

A total of nine (unnamed) CRT entries have been officially accepted by the Grand Prix Commission for the 2012 MotoGP season. These entries add to the twelve factory-built bikes, meaning MotoGP looks set for a grid of 21 riders this season.

Ioda Racing ran Simone Corsi and Mattia Pasini on FTRs in Moto2 last year. Corsi finished sixth in the standings with two podiums, while former 250cc star Pasini was 24th.
