Honda: infinite marketing possibilities

Repsol Honda 2011

Times are tough and there is a dearth of sponsors, but the upside is that it has allowed the big manufacturers to rediscover self-promotion. This particular example is as effective as it is simple (are you paying attention, managers?), with Honda merely wheeling their CR-Z out onto the Mugello pit lane for some pictures.  It likely took little time to conceive, and certainly took little time to execute, so where is the downside?

Here is the official press release:

Repsol Honda MotoGP riders Dani Pedrosa, Andrea Dovizioso and Casey Stoner have shown their support for the new sporty Honda CR-Z by displaying the logo on their racing leathers.

"We are delighted to support Honda Cars in 2011 season - Shuhei Nakamoto said - The CR-Z is a great looking sporty car and the marriage of Honda automotive hybrid technology and our race bred technology from MotoGP is a perfect match."

"CR-Z has been designed as the first sporty hybrid coupe to dispel the myths that hybrids are not fun to drive - Tom Gardner, General Manager, Cars Honda Motor Europe added - The CR-Z has a 3-mode drive system, providing an entertaining driving experience combined with low emissions. Being part of MotoGP this season further helps emphasize the message that the CR-Z is fun to drive, and will raise awareness of the car to a wider audience."
