The opening practice of the Gran Premio Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana, the final round of the 2011 season, saw Championship leader Stefan Bradl set the fastest time ahead of Randy Krummenacher and Alex De Angelis. Title contender Márquez did not participate in the session.
The Moto2 field opened their final round of the season at the Ricardo Tormo circuit with Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing) taking the lead from Krummenacher (GP Team Switzerland Kiefer Racing) in the dying moments with a fast lap of 1’41.777 around the cold and damp track. Krummenacher was bumped to second, three tenths behind the German rider, with JiR Moto2’s De Angelis following in third with a time of 1’42.688.
Fourth in the session was Mattia Pasini (Ioda Racing Project), his time over a second off the fast lapo set by Bradl. Dominique Aegerter (Technomag-CIP) completed the top five, followed by Kenny Noyes (Avintia-STX) and Kenan Sofuoglu (Technomag-CIP), both of whom spent some time at the top of the standings before the session close. Anthony West (MZ Racing), Michele Pirro (Gresini Racing Moto2) and Mika Kallio (Marc VDS Racing) completed the top ten times.
Although the Championship title is technically undecided, Bradl is poised to take the Moto2 crown this weekend as he leads Marc Márquez (Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol) by 23 points in the Championship, and with Márquez's injuries from a crash at Sepang still causing the Spaniard some vision problems, it is unlikely that he will participate in the race this weekend, with the official word from Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol still pending.
