Dani Pedrosa pondering fresh shoulder surgery

Dani Pedrosa is contemplating whether to have a plate removed from his right collarbone in the near future or delay further surgery until the end of the 2012 MotoGP world championship.

The Repsol Honda rider is considering whether to have the plate around his right collarbone removed, which he had inserted back in May following a controversial collision with late Italian Marco Simoncelli in Le Mans.

The triple world champion, who topped the timesheets at the end of a two-day 1000cc test in Valencia last week, told MCN: “We have to consider about moving the plate in the right collarbone, so we have to check with the doctors when is a good time. It is good to take out but not too early, so sometimes you have to wait one year for this. But if I do this then that will be in the middle of next year and we have to consider which is the best option, to take it out or wait until next winter. At the moment the most important thing is to work out whether to do it or not and when.”

Pedrosa, who won three races in 2011, said he will also use the winter break to regain maximum strength in his right shoulder before winter testing gets underway again at the Sepang track in Malaysia on January 31.

He added: “My bones are still weak because I lost a lot of muscle mass and of course they are small and the tendons and ligaments are a little weak, but until the winter I can’t really work on that to get it back. Basically I am not in pain but I don’t have the strength that I used to have in this area."
