Austin Still On Track

MotoGP fans in the United States can exhale now that the inaugural F1 race at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, remained on the 2012 F1 schedule ratified Dec. 7 at a World Motor Sports Council meeting.

The status of the F1 race - and the completion of the circuit - became very murky last month when construction stopped due to an apparent dispute between the track's financiers and the promoter who negotiated the sanctioning agreement with F1 head honcho Bernie Ecclestone.

Ecclestone doesn't cut deals with anyone. But he made a concession by extending two deadlines to receive the sanctioning fee from the circuit's money men, with an increased fee probably as vigorish. And as the legendary Dennis Hopper yelled often in his creepy role as Feck in the classic coming-of-age film "River's Edge," "CHECK'S IN THE MAIL!"
