Rossi overtakes Lorenzo

Valentino Rossi is coming off the most difficult season of his career in terms of results, but it doesn't seem to have have had much effect on his off-track appeal.

For reasons that aren't entirely clear, the "Doctor" had shunned the social networking site Twitter, leaving rival Jorge Lorenzo to be the undisputed king of the new media world.  But all of that changed three months ago, when the Ducati rider finally decided to begin his own page.

Lorenzo's account was created in May of 2009, and since then the Spaniard has managed to reach an impressive 300,000 "followers," easily outpacing the competition. In just three months, however, Rossi has already attracted an amazing 368,000 followers, adding an average of nearly 4,500 new contacts each day. This of course makes him the most followed motorcycle racer in the world, and knocks Lorenzo back to second place.  So while Valentino waits to unwrap his new GP12 at the Sepang test, he can at least hang his hat on this small victory away from the track.
