Jonas Folger lands Ioda ride

German rider Jonas Folger has announced he will now be racing this season, with the Ioda Racing Project in Moto3.

The winner of last season's British Grand Prix 125cc race at a soaked Silverstone had found himself demoted to the role of substitute rider in the MZ team after they lost a parts supplier to bankruptcy and announced the need to make budget cuts, with Folger finding himself on the receiving end.

This had spurred him on to find a new ride for the upcoming season, with the Ioda ride becoming possible and finalised in time for the upcoming testing at Jerez.

Folger confirmed the news on his official Facebook account “ Today we go to Jerez for the IRTA test! Will test the bike for three days for Ioda Racing and hope I can catch up the training backlog and it all runs smoothly”.

The 18 year old put in a solid performance last season for the Red Bull Ajo Motorsport team, finishing the season sixth overall with three podiums, including his Silverstone win.

The IRTA official test at Jerez is the final test before the season starts and the first for the lower classes to feature official timing.
