Stoner thanks fans for the congratulations

"After what seemed like the longest wait in history, our little girl Alessandra Maria finally arrived on Thursday February 16. Thank you all for the good wishes," the rider wrote in his Repsol blog.

Casey Stoner thanked all those who sent the many congratulations and well wishes received for the recent birth of his first child through his blog on the Repsol website.

"After what seemed like the longest wait in history, our little girl Alessandra Maria finally arrived on Thursday 16 February at 21:55. Weighing in at 2.8kg the birth went very well and both Adriana and I are so happy to welcome our 'Ally' into the World, she's so perfect!" wrote Stoner, who offered details on being a new parent:

"This weekend has been spent getting to know each other and acclimatising to one another, but now we're starting to get in sync and she sleeps so well and has been a dream so far," explained the 2011 MotoGP World Champion, adding: "I'd like to thank all our family, friends and fans for their heartfelt comments and well wishes, they all mean so much."

Stoner reveals that he is "trying to do a little training and spend as much time as possible with Ally and Adriana". Next weekend, he will travel to Malaysia for the second official MotoGP Test in Sepang. In 2012 the Australian faces an unprecedented challenge in the modern era of motorcycling: Defending his premier class title while being a father. He will be the first to attempt this feat since three times World Champion Wayne Rainey did so from 1990 to 1992.

Moto GP star Casey Stoner becomes a proud dad

MotoGP  star Casey Stoner and wife Adriana are proud parents of a baby girl born overnight in Switzerland. Stoner, the two-time MotoGP world champion and Adriana who is from Adelaide, have named their daughter Alessandra Maria Stoner.

Alessandra, weighing 2.8 kgs, was born late evening Thursday, 16th February European time.

The Stoner's are based near Lausanne in Switzerland to fit in with Casey's European MotoGP schedule.

''Mum and baby are perfect with no complications,'' said a spokesman for Stoner's Honda team.

Stoner is preparing to defend the MotoGP championship he won last year in his first season with Honda. He resumes pre-season testing at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia on the 28th February.

Over the past six season Stoner is the only rider to win more MotoGP races than seven-time champion Valentino Rossi, out-gunning the Italian great 33 wins to 26.

Stoner becomes a father

Casey Stoner has become a father for the first time after his wife Adriana gave birth to a daughter.

No official announcement has been made for the name of their child.

When questionned on whether becoming a father would slow him down, the two-time MotoGP champion said: "They also say that you slow down when you get married, but in my first year of marriage I won the title and when I found out that we were having a baby I won it a second time. I don’t think that it is the case."

Casey also said that he definitely has plans to get his child on a bike from a young age, but the decision of whether they want to be a rider or not would be completely down to them.

Stoner to be a father, softens Motegi stance

On Thursday in the Czech Republic, MotoGP World Championship leader Casey Stoner announced that he is to become a father for the first time.

The 25-year-old Repsol Honda rider, married to Adriana, won the 2007 world championship for Ducati and starts this weekend's Brno round with a 20 point lead over Yamaha's reigning champion Jorge Lorenzo.

Stoner also explained that his wife's pregnancy was a major factor in his reluctance to attend the Japanese MotoGP at Motegi.

At the Sachsenring in mid-July Stoner had stated "I will not go", due to radiation fears, but he has softened his stance during the summer break.

“There was a period after Silverstone that I felt very strongly that I wasn't going to go there. After things I'd seen and heard,” commented the Australian. “But that came from a very strong emotion after we found out that Adriana was pregnant. 

"We've discussed it a lot since then and that's a huge thing that's happened in my life and now the most important. I felt that the best thing I could do at that time was to make my mind up. There was no way I was going to risk my wife or my family and it was very tough.

“But in these weeks I've taken a lot of data from Australia, people we feel we can trust on the matter, and I'm now slightly more open to it than I was before. I think people can understand I was taken a little bit with my safety and that of my family in this matter. 

"We'll see in these next weeks, we'll continue talking and try and find out as much information as we can. I'm not saying that I am going, but I'm not saying that I'm not now. So we'll just have to see what happens in the near future.”

Lorenzo had also said he will not attend the Motegi event and the majority of MotoGP riders signed a petition against holding the race. 

However, an independent study recently declared that "the radiation risk during the [Motegi] event is negligible" and the Japanese MotoGP is thus expected to go ahead as planned on October 2.

The four other riders present at the Brno press conference on Thursday - Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Alvaro Bautista and Karel Abraham - said that they would also wait further before making a firm decision, with a riders' Safety Commission meeting planned for Friday.

Motegi is around 110 km from the damaged Fukushima power plant.
